The Nutcracker - A Sweet Christmas Tradition

Nutcrackers, who doesn't know them? The funny wooden figures in soldier uniforms or Christmas costumes have become an indispensable part of the Christmas period.
Do you actually know where this legend comes from?

The origin

The origin of the Nutcracker lies in Germany. According to the story, there once lived in the Thuringian town of Nuremberg a poor toymaker named Herr Drosselmeyer. He was a very talented woodcarver and made beautiful dolls and instruments.

Nutcracker

One day an old woman came into his shop - wanting food in exchange - and asked Drosselmeyer to make her a Nutcracker. Drosselmeyer agreed and made a special Nutcracker in the shape of a soldier with an open mouth. The woman was delighted with the result.

Christmas Eve

Years later, on Christmas Eve, the Nutcracker mysteriously turned into a handsome prince. He told Drosselmeyer's cousin Marie the story of how he had been bewitched by a witch. Marie was deeply impressed and that was the beginning of a magical Christmas tale full of wonder and fantasy.

Indispensable

Today, the Nutcracker has become an indispensable part of the Christmas season. They can be found all over the world: from classic wooden ones to modern, colorful versions. They symbolize the magic and wonder of Christmas. Every time you hear the nuts crack, you are drawn back into that enchanting Christmas fairy tale.

They are also part of the Christmas collection of Sofia's Brocante's webshop .
